THE TEMPLE FAIR
Once a year, towards the end of the rainy season in October, the people of Samut Prakan take part in the temple fair. This goes on for nine days and nine nights. Everything comes to a halt as the main roads through the city are closed for pedestrians only. The pictures above were taken during the daytime, but during the evening it would taken you hours to shuffle along this road. This is not only because of the extra people, but also it would seem that anyone that has something to sell lays their goods out in neat rows along the middle of the road.
You can buy just about anything from plastic toy guns to a large variety of Thai sweets. Some stalls are in a fixed location for the duration while others are more mobile. The Thai people love eating so there are always plenty of snacks to eat.

Can you guess what this man is selling? Yes, fried baby birds and grubs. Now, before you start getting any ideas, this is not your average playground snack. In fact, we only usually see snacks such as these during temple fairs.

As well as eating and buying, the temple fair also has attractions such as the big wheel, shooting gallery and merry go rounds. You can also see bearded women and real ghosts!
