| It is only a five minute walk from the school to the Chao Phraya River. The name of our area is Paknam, which means river mouth in Thai. Downriver from us is the Gulf of Thailand. Upriver are the ports and Bangkok. There are no bridges where we are, so if you want to cross to the other side of the river, you have to go by ferry boat. This only costs 2 baht. The tour on this page takes you across the river to Phra Samut Chedi. The pictures were taken by Nattawud and the student in the photos is Suthee. | ||

| Suthee has arrived at the temple and he first buys a lotus flower, three incense sticks, a small candle and a small square sheet of gold paper. He first lights the incense sticks and then kneels down in front of the shrine in front of the temple. He puts the incense sticks and lotus flower between his palms as he makes a prayer. | ||

| Once he finishes, he prostrates three times in front of the shrine. He then goes inside the temple. In Thailand, whenever you go inside a room you must remember two things: take off your shoes and never step on the threshold. Inside the temple are Buddha images which Suthee had already paid respects to in the shrine outside. He now puts the gold paper onto one of the Buddha images. By making the image more beautiful he is making merit for himself. | ||

Before he goes, Suthee tries the fortune telling game called siam si in Thai. In his hand he holds a round container full of sticks. Each one has a unique number on it. He shakes it slowly until one stick drops out onto the floor. He then matches this with a piece of paper with the same number. In the last picture he is reading his fortune.
