Buddhist Prayers

During morning assembly, the students chant some Buddhist prayers. Virtually every school in Thailand will do the same. They do this in two different languages. First Pali which is the ancient language of the scriptures. Then, after each line, there is a translation in Thai. You should be able to notice the difference as the Pali words are "sung". What you can hear now are three students saying the prayers. During assembly, the students will repeat each line after a senior student.

The first line you will hear is someone telling the students to put their hands together in a wai. Then you will hear three students "sing" the first line in blue followed by the Thai translation in black. An English translation of the Pali is at the bottom.

Buddhist Chanting

He is the Holy One, completely aware, the Lord.
I honour the Lord Buddha.
The moral instruction is well preached by the Lord.
I will pay homage to the moral instruction.
The community of the disciples of the Lord is of good conduct.
I pay homage to the community of the disciples.
