We have
started a collection of videos, music and sound bytes
taken from around the school. We are the first school in Thailand to do video blogs. You can see an example at our affiliated site www.thailandvideoblogs.com. We will also be starting School Video Blogs very soon.

(Windows Media):
Motorcycle
(125 KB)
This short 3 second clip shows a student arriving at
school on his father's motorcycle. Notice that as the
student gets off the motorcycle, he turns around to
wai his father which is the Thai way of saying "thank
you and goodbye".
Samlor
(307 KB)
This 9 second clip shows 2 students arriving at school
with their mother in a samlor. A samlor is a three-wheeled
local taxi which is very cheap to use. The lady on the
left is a teacher on duty who helps the children off
the samlor. Notice the girl does a wai for her mother
and the teacher. This is a polite way to say both "hello"
and "goodbye"!
Going
Home (370 KB)
This 12 second clip shows the students lining up to
go home at the end of the school day. The lady on the
right is the duty teacher for the front gate. As the
students pass her, they should wai her, which is a polite
way to say goodbye. However, notice one student doesn't
do that and she calls him back. On the loudspeaker,
you can hear another teacher calling the names of students.
This is telling them that there is someone here to pick
them up.
Chanting
during Assembly (497 KB)
This 16 second clip shows the students chanting during
morning assembly. About 95% of Thai people are Buddhists
and at our school that percentage is much higher. During
assembly, the students chant Buddhist prayers. You can
hear one student reading a line first before it is repeated
by the rest of the school.
School
Song (1243 KB)
This 42 second clip shows the students singing the school
song during morning asembly. The video is shot from
high up so that you can see the entire school. The camera
zooms in on the school band and then pans across the
different grades. The younger students are at the front.
The students who are in blue are wearing their P.E.
clothes.

of poem that they have to memorize. This helps them
remember a complicated spelling rule.

teeth after eating lunch. You can just see that the
boy on the right is wearing an amulet around his neck.
This is usually of a Buddha image or famous monk. The
boy wears it as protection against evil spirits and
to keep him safe.
After
Assembly (883 KB)
This 30 second clip shows the students leaving the playground
after assembly. Notice in the first shot how the students
bow their heads as they pass the teacher. Then, in the
second shot, they take off their shoes and carry them
as they walk up the stairs to their classroom.
Snackshop
(304 KB)
This 9 second clip shows you the students buying snack
during breaktime. There is a variety of food on sale
and the majority is made in the school kitchens or in
the snackshop itself.
Spirit
House and Brahman Shrine (462 KB)
This 15 second clip shows you the Spirit House (on the
left) and the Brahman Shrine. The Spirit House is for
the guardian spirits of the land where the school is
built. We have to appease them with a beautiful house
of their own and daily offerings of food and drink.
If we don't, they might cause mischief in the school.
The Brahman Shrine, the Hindu diety with four faces,
is a common sight in Thailand. It is nothing to do with
Buddhism, but students and teachers might make a wish
at the shrine for good luck.

SOUND
(Flash):
The following
music and sound clips make use of Flash technology.
Most new browsers already have this installed. If you
don't have it yet, you can download it here. It takes less than a minute. With Flash we can bring
you the music with audio streaming. The advantage with
this is that you can start listening to music only after
a few seconds wait. Nothing is downloaded onto your
computer.
