The Floating Market

The houses, the shops on both banks and the houseboats floating peacefully on the river, these are the typical elements of a Thai community settled along the banks of a river. This type of settlement later developed into a trading centre as well as a residential area.

 The Samphet Prasat Palace

This major architectural achievement is considered a true symbol both of the old capital of Ayutthaya as well as of Muang Boran and can be found nowhere else.

On several occasions from the reign of King Phra Boromatrilokanart onward, this great palace served as the official hall for royal.

 

 

The Courage of the People of Bang Rachan

During the late Ayutthaya period, in the reign of King Ekathat, the raiding parties of the Burmese troops had been sent into the surrounding countryside to try and subdue the Thai people. They raped, pillaged and burnt people's houses. The incident made the Sing Buri people angry. They began to organize a group of local militia which was later known as Khai Bang Rachan or Bang Rachan Fort. The leaders were, for example, Nai Taan, Nai Mueng, Nai Chot, Nai In, Nai Dok, Nai Keaw, Khun San and Pan Rueng. They had fought with the Burmese invaders eight times before they were finally defeated.

 

 Sumeru Mountain

According to Thai cosmology, Sumeru Mountain is Considered the pillar of the word as well as the center of the universe. The mountain, supported by Anondha fish, stays above the surface of the water. It is the residence of spirits ranging from deities in heaven to devils in hell. The beings living by the mountain side also include humans, naga, garuda, ogres, orgesses and yogi. Each of them is distinguished by wisdom and morality.
